Two Officers Shot in Georgia and in Missouri
A day after a police ambush in Dallas, two officers were shot and wounded in the line of duty on Friday, though neither incident was believed to be related to the Dallas attack.
In Valdosta, Ga., an officer was dispatched to a house whose occupant had called 911 to report a car break-in. When the officer arrived, the man, Stephen Paul Beck, 22, shot him several times, the police said. The officer was hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.
The second officer was shot and wounded during a traffic stop in Ballwin, Mo., on Friday morning, and a suspect was captured shortly afterward, officials said.
Missouri’s governor, Jay Nixon, cut short a trip to Philadelphia and returned to the state. “Deeply concerned by reports of an officer shot in Ballwin,” hewrote on Twitter. “This violence must stop.”
